1999 News Article

Crisfield, Maryland, 21 Aug 1999 - Isaac Sterling & his wife Hester Somers are the earliest known ancestors of the Sterlings of Crisfield, Maryland. One of their descendants is George Washington Sterling, who married three times, had seventeen children, and was instrumental in the settling of this part of the world.

We are lucky to have this record - much of the history of the area is passed down from person to person by word of mouth.
Isaac Sterling was a merchant in Crisfield, Maryland, and this being the time of the cival way, and Maryland being a border state, it would be expected there were people in Crisfield who favored both sides. Isaac was known as a seccessionist among his people.

His Grandson was George Washington Sterling, the son of Noah Sterling & Elizabeth Respess.  George eventually went to Gwynn's Island, Virginia.  His history is interesting and colorful.
